Iron River Lions Activities & Projects
The Iron River Lions Club was organized on January 15, 1963. We were sponsored by the Brule Lions Club. At that first meeting, 29 charter members were inducted. (Click here to see a list of the charter members.) Through the years, Iron River Lions have supported many facets of life in the Iron River area through projects and donations. Below is a partial list of Lions' activities... Purchased the first Iron River Ambulance Purchased Fire Fighting Equipment Purchased the Zamboni for the ice rinks Donated land for the ice hockey rinks and baseball diamonds Continual financial aid for Hockey and Baseball teams (equipment, lighting, fencing, and uniforms Donated to Pony Football League in Douglas County Sponsored Boy and Girl Scouts Donated to DARE program Purchased wooden playground equipment for and donated funds for updating equipment at the Iron River Elementary School Supported Iron River Area Foundation Supported local families' and individual's needs (hearing aids, eye glasses, eye medication, handicap access ramp, special swimming equipment for hearing impaired) Sponsored At Risk children from Iron River to attend summer camp Sponsored local children to attend Wisconsin Lions Camp Donated to Iron River Library building project Ongoing support of Iron River Library |
